Please stop screaming – a poem

Please stop screaming – a poem

I think I’ve gone deaf
The neighbours have too
She’s been screaming so long
I don’t know what to do.

I’ve tried lots of cuddles
And pacing around
But that doesn’t calm her
She just stands her ground.

I’ve talked and I’ve sung
Til I’m blue in the face
She won’t even listen
Just cries into space.

She’s been in my arms
She’s been in her cot
Soon she’ll go on the floor
She can like it or not.

I’ve been punched in the face
And been kicked in the ribs
They say babies are hard
They’re not telling fibs.

I have begged and I’ve pleaded
I’ve asked oh so nice
Then called up my mum
And asked for advice.

She said ‘don’t be stupid
You know babies cry’
But this one won’t stop mum
And I’ve no idea why.

She’s fed and she’s burped now
I just changed her bum
She’s cosy and warm here
It’s alright for some.

I’d love to be pampered
For someone to care
When I just felt like screaming
While they stroked my hair.

The girl just won’t stop
She’s turning bright red
Will anyone notice
If she goes in the shed?

Then Daddy comes home
As pleased as can be
To get in from work
Seeing baby and me.

And what on earth happens
I don’t know what to think
She stops and beams at him
Hell, get mummy a drink!

That has made me smile because I know so well what it can be like when baby cries and cries. Reminds me of my little boy who had colic and I was told ‘all babies cry’. Beautifully written. #SundayBest

My son has entered the terrible twos and I swear he screams and screeches all day sometimes. Yesterday was a hard day that lefts us both crying.

Ha ha, why is it that Dad’s always have that effect? I dread to think what my neighbours must be thinking some days with the screaming that comes from our two year old on a regular basis, she’s the biggest drama queen. But then again they have dogs that never stop barking so it’s kind of like revenge 😂
