We’re going to be late – a poem

We’re going to be late – a poem

We’re going to be late, I told her this morning

When the sun was still rising and a new day was dawning

There are clothes to pick out so we both look our best

And then there’s the hassle of just getting dressed

Changing your nappy sometimes takes a few goes

It’s hard to wipe bums right, whilst holding your nose

Then we’ll have to both breakfast on milk and caffeine

Dabbing up sick spots so they won’t be seen

For anyone else, it would be time to go out

But we will be late still, there’s never a doubt

There are rabbits to feed, we must wish them ‘good day’

Give them some fuss before we’re on our way

Then mummy must pack, for you don’t travel light

Lots of bottles and nappies should be about right

Oh a coat, goodness me, mummy almost forgot

And somewhere to stash it when you end up too hot

We’ll need some toys too since you now like to play

Which ones are not covered in dribble today?

To bring them will mean a spare bag or more

We’ll have to start lining them up by the door

It’s like we are going away for a while

Not down the road for less than a mile

You’ll go into your seat as you wiggle and scream

Even though my dear girl, we are on the same team

Except when you puke as I get to the car

And it’s back to the house since we didn’t get far

Dress you again in whatever I find

You look pretty silly, but ah, never mind

And then we will leave, just a few hours late

Arrive down the road in a terrible state

For I’m sure this will happen, I swear it on teddy

I’ve been sat here just rhyming for an hour already.

We're going to be late

This is such a great poem. Something that all parents can relate to I’m sure. #ThatFridayLinky

Love it so much and yep, been there done that 🙂 You should have seen me when I was packing for going away with the two boys – I arrived at my parents and they thought I was staying for a month, and then at the airport’s boarding gate with all the hand luggage! I looked like a donkey – babe in a carrier in front, back pack on my back, an over-spilling changing bag on one arm, pushing one small suitcase (because a certain cheap airline starting with ‘R’ won’t let you check it in for free and the idiot that I am I didn’t check the rules!), and a small person’s backpack in my other hand as he didn’t want to carry it. All this and not even one person asked to help! NEVER AGAIN will I fly with two kids on my own! 😉 xx

Oh wow I can’t even begin to imagine how you did that! Leaving the house with a baby is tough enough 😱 now that’s super mamma!! X

That was awesome! My oldest always managed to be sick just after I’d got him changed to go out, so then I’d have to put clean clothes on him and then I’d be late! xx
